In Bantwala taluk of South Kannada district, in the B.C. Road Police Line, there exists an ancient and historically renowned temple, the Devasthan of Goddess Annapoorneshwari Nagadev. This temple has a history of around 2500 years, and it gained prominence during the rule of the Maharajas. It flourished with grandeur and then fell into neglect, ultimately resulting in the disappearance of its presence due to lack of proper maintenance. This information has been obtained from the eighth Mangala Jyotishi and the evidence from the surroundings.
For several years, due to the absence of daily worship, the temple remained in a state of neglect, leading to hardships and unfortunate events for the residents and the government officials. In response, a group of devotees gathered, engaged in discussions and contemplation, and brought back the presence of Goddess Annapoorneshwari and Nagadeva through the consecration ceremonies in the year 2001. Subsequently, with the cooperation of the villagers, town residents, and devotees, the main deities, Lord Mahaganapathi, Lord Nagadeva, and Lord Shashtar, were also consecrated on March 16, 2009. Along with the Ashtabandha Brahmakalashotsava, the temple has been transformed into its present majestic form. The Sadra Devasthan now operates under the management of the Sri Annapoorneshwari Nagadev Temple Trust (R), B.C. Road, Police Line, attracting a multitude of devotees and members of the government sector.
In the temple, the grand Anna Santarpana (offering of food) ceremony takes place every Friday and during the transition of the months. The grand Jatra festival takes place in January, and the Pratishtha Mahotsava takes place in March, attracting devotees from near and far. These events include special Chandika Homa, Rangapuja, and the offering of Mahaprasada of Goddess Annapoorneshwari.
